Description
When students understand the steps for multiplying fractions but still need practice applying them in different situations, this spy-themed mission gives the work a purpose. Students race to secure a safe house by solving eight puzzles that combine computation, models, reasoning, and real-world problems.
Math skills students will practice
- Multiplying fractions by whole numbers, fractions, and mixed numbers
- Solving real-world fraction multiplication word problems
- Finding the area of rectangles with fractional side lengths
- Recognizing fraction multiplication area models
- Interpreting multiplication as scaling
- Writing products in simplest form
The activity supports work with 5.NF.B.4, 5.NF.B.5, and 5.NF.B.6. It is designed for students who have already learned the concepts and are ready to use them across several problem types.

The printable escape room comes in both color and black-and-white versions and includes the mission, eight puzzles, and a mission-accomplished page. It is low prep and easy to implement as a complete escape room, or you can use individual puzzles as task cards, math stations, small-group practice, or exit tickets.
The digital escape room is no prep, fully self-checking, and automated through Google Forms. There are no clues to hide, and students do not need Google Classroom or email accounts. Any student with an internet-connected computer, tablet, or phone can participate. An optional link is included for schools that require the form to originate within their own Google system.
What is included
- Quick-start guide and digital escape-room link
- Optional link for saving a copy of the Google Form
- Printable escape room in color and black and white
- Eight standards-based puzzles

Many students finish in about 20–45 minutes, although timing varies. It works well for fraction review, centers, test preparation, enrichment, early finishers, or a collaborative practice day.
