Description
Two-digit multiplication becomes part of a secret-agent restaurant mission in this 4th grade escape room. Students solve six connected puzzles and ciphers to confirm their identities, order the correct appetizer, find a door code, and complete their assignment.
Math skills students will practice
- Multiplying a two-digit number by another two-digit number
- Using an appropriate strategy such as an area model, partial products, place-value reasoning, lattice multiplication, or the standard algorithm
- Reading directions carefully and using products to decode ciphers and combinations
The math focus aligns with 4.NBT.B.5. No single multiplication strategy is required, making the activity useful after students have learned the method used in your classroom.
Choose print or digital
The digital version is the no-prep choice. It is automated through Google Forms, completely self-checking, and has no clues to hide. Students do not need Google Classroom or email accounts; they only need an internet-connected device and browser.
The printable version is included in both color and black and white. It offers a more hands-on escape-room setup and comes with detailed implementation directions. Some cutting, hiding of clues, and answer checking are required, so it takes more preparation than the digital version. Four puzzles can be paired with real combination locks if you own them, but locks are not required.
