Description
Students may be counting the days until winter break, but they can still do meaningful grade-level math. In The Case of the Rogue Reindeer, students search for the missing reindeer and uncover a password by solving connected math problems, ciphers, and logic challenges.
Math skills students will practice
- Rounding whole numbers to the nearest ten and hundred
- Solving multi-step word problems
- Dividing three-digit numbers by one-digit divisors without remainders
- Multiplying two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers
- Finding missing values in equivalent fractions
- Working with factors, multiples, and prime numbers
The variety makes this a useful 4th grade math review rather than a single-skill holiday activity.
No-prep digital implementation
This resource is a digital escape room automated through Google Forms. It is fully self-checking, has no physical clues to hide, and does not require Google Classroom or student email accounts. Students only need an internet-connected computer, tablet, or phone.
What is included
- Quick-start guide and escape-room link
- Optional Google Form copy link
- Answer key and teacher tips
- Optional puzzle-helper and recording page
- Optional cipher disk
- Optional success signs
Most classes should plan for approximately 30–45 minutes, although timing depends on students’ math fluency and experience with ciphers. It is an easy-to-implement choice for December centers, collaborative review, enrichment, or the week before Christmas break.
