Description
This 5th grade winter math escape room bundle includes four self-checking digital activities for seasonal practice and review. Students work through engaging winter and Christmas-themed mysteries while using fractions, decimals, long division, place value, and multi-step problem solving. The bundle is especially useful before winter break, when meaningful math practice can be difficult to fit into the excitement of the season.
Four digital math escape rooms
- The Case of the Rogue Reindeer: Students add fractions with unlike denominators and divide four-digit numbers by two-digit divisors. This Christmas activity works best with small groups and usually takes about 45 minutes.
- Operation Free the Yeti: A snowy Himalayan mission helps students practice multiplying fractions. Although it fits naturally into a winter unit, you can use it at any time of year. Plan approximately 45–60 minutes.
- Escape the Snow Globe: This quicker, three-puzzle escape room includes word problems, a logic puzzle, and a cipher. Students add, subtract, and multiply decimals to the hundredths while applying place value understanding. Most groups need about 20–30 minutes.
- Revenge of the Gingerbread Man: This is the most challenging activity in the set. Students solve multi-step word problems, divide by two-digit numbers, use place value, and multiply by powers of 10 to escape the bakery.
No-prep, automated Google Forms™ activities
Each escape room runs in Google Forms™, so there are no clues to hide around the classroom. Moreover, the activities are self-checking. Students can move forward only after entering a correct answer, and the form provides structure throughout the challenge.
Students do not need Google™ accounts. They simply need an internet-connected tablet, computer, or phone with a browser. Therefore, you can use these games for in-person instruction, distance learning, or a hybrid class. Students may work independently, but partners and small groups can also discuss strategies and collaborate on the puzzles.
What is included?
- Quick-start guides with links to each escape room

- Teacher tips and answer keys

- An optional cipher disk for The Case of the Rogue Reindeer
- Optional success signs for end-of-activity photos
Frequently asked questions
How much time should I allow? The exact time depends on the activity and the students. Some groups may finish a shorter challenge in 20–30 minutes. However, allowing up to 60 minutes for a longer mission is helpful.
Will student work save automatically? Google Forms™ saves response data when students sign in. If they are not signed in, have them record answers on the included page or scratch paper so they can return later.
Do students search the web? No. Each form contains every clue students need, and all math tasks follow grade-level standards.
Use this bundle for winter math centers, Christmas class activities, enrichment, review, or a special day before break. Overall, the four different stories give fifth graders plenty of variety while keeping the grade-level math skills at the center of every challenge.
