Description
Your students are locked inside Polly’s Polygon Pizza Shop, and their knowledge of area is the key to escaping! Five pizza-themed puzzle challenges ask students to apply geometry formulas, solve multi-step problems, and collaborate carefully.
Both printable and self-checking Google Forms versions are included. The digital escape room offers two differentiated options, while the print version turns the same five puzzles into a hands-on pizza menu challenge.
Geometry skills students will practice
- Finding the area of triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids
- Finding missing bases or heights when the area is known
- Calculating the area of composite and irregular figures
- Applying area formulas to real-world word problems
- Solving substitution ciphers and multi-step puzzles
The problems use whole numbers rather than fractions or decimals. The activity is aligned with 6.G.A.1 and works well for 6th grade, advanced 5th graders, or geometry review in later grades.
Differentiation and included materials
The two digital options contain the same mathematical ideas. Option B provides additional scaffolding, divides puzzles into smaller steps, and offers extra hints.

Most students need approximately 30–60 minutes. Use the activity for geometry practice, test preparation, enrichment, early finishers, homework, or collaborative problem solving. Students do not need Google accounts for the regular digital escape room, though the optional Slides tool requires Google Drive access.
