Description
Volume can feel abstract when students move too quickly from cubes to formulas. This 5th grade escape room keeps the unit-cube meaning front and center while students race through a spy mission to rescue an agent.
Students will practice:
- calculate the volume of rectangular prisms using unit cubes
- find volume of composite rectangular prisms and irregular shapes built from unit cubes
- solve real-world volume word problems
- begin connecting unit-cube volume to base times height and length x width x height
Eight puzzles are included in both print and digital formats. The printable files come in color and black-and-white, while the online version is self-checking and has no clues to hide. If a full escape room does not fit your schedule, individual printable puzzles can also be used for stations, task cards, or exit-ticket practice.
This is especially useful when students understand what volume means but need more varied practice before moving fully into formula-based work.
