Description
Decimal Dan’s missing gold gives students a reason to connect fractions and decimals in this 4th grade decimals and fractions escape room. First, students follow digital clues through standards-based puzzles about tenths, hundredths, fraction equivalence, number lines, and decimal comparisons.
4th Grade Math Skills
Students practice the following skills:
- Create equivalent fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 to add fractions (4.NF.C.5)
- Write fractions with denominators of 10 or 100 as decimals
- Write decimals through the hundredths place as fractions (4.NF.C.6)
- Compare decimals through the hundredths using <, >, and = (4.NF.C.7)
- Recognize equivalent decimals and fractions
- Locate decimals and fractions on number lines
Together, the puzzles help students move among visual models, fractions, and decimal notation. Therefore, this activity works best after students have learned the core concepts and need meaningful practice.
