Description
This 8th grade linear equations escape room provides multi-step equation practice through a humorous school mission. A brain rot virus is spreading through the building. Students must solve six puzzles and develop a cure before the effects become permanent.
Linear equation skills
First, students solve equations in one variable with rational coefficients. Some problems require the distributive property. Next, students calculate with positive and negative numbers. They also choose an equation that can model a word problem.
Most equations use whole numbers. However, a few include decimals. Because the problems vary, students must select an efficient method and check each solution.
Standards-based algebra with a current theme
The storyline uses school-appropriate Gen Z and Gen Alpha slang. Still, the algebra remains the main task. Students read clues, compare strategies, and work toward a shared goal.
