Description
If students know how to multiply decimals but need more practice applying the skill, this mission gives the work a purpose. Fifth graders race to retrieve a powerful object before a rival spy team, using decimal multiplication to unlock each part of the challenge.
Students will practice:
- multiply decimals to the hundredths by whole numbers
- multiply decimals to the tenths to produce products to the hundredths
- use visual models to connect fraction/decimal representations with multiplication equations
- practice decimal multiplication aligned with 5.NBT.B.7
Both print and digital formats are included. The printable escape room comes in color and black-and-white and contains seven puzzles; individual puzzles can also be used as stations or task cards. The digital version is self-checking, has no clues to hide, and runs through Google Forms without requiring student Google accounts.
The activity is useful for practice, review, enrichment, or a change of pace after students have learned the underlying multiplication strategies.
